Tonight is Fiber Arts Meeting

I have my Fiber Arts Alliance meeting tonight. We are coming up with a new name for the group, so I don't know what to call it exactly. However, it will be fun. I have made a lot of progress on my first Family Values quilt top, and I post it tomorrow during WIP Wednesday. I would post it now, but I don't want to spoil the surprise for tonight.

I thought I would post these pictures for Jane Ann. She reminds me of my mom, who also smocks clothes for her grandkids. So here is my mom...

And here are Amy and Sam together on Christmas Eve...

Gosh, you kids are gorgeous! It must be genetic as their grandmother is beautiful. (Their mother is no slouch either, but we grandmas have to cover each other's back, ya know.) I LOVE the smocked frocks (do Sam's cuffs need turning?). It looks like your mother smocked Amy's insert on the wrong side of the corduroy? I've done that before, to avoid that moire effect you get with pinwale. On the Noah's Ark I did for Campbell, I pleated the insert sideways (length of the grain, rather than width), so the wales run horizontal. It seemed easier to smock (lines to follow) and the finished effect is very nice--almost a mosaic tile look. Ask your mom if she's ever done that. (I'm sure she has--she's been at it a lot longer than I have.) Thanks for the post!

Awww - I wonder if smocking will be making a come back like Knitting & quilting before that...
