January Journal Quilt

Here is my finished January Journal Quilt. It actually is rectangular. It just didn't photograph that way. I'll try to take a better picture later and change it out.

It is all hand appliqued, which would explain why I was still working on it at midnight last night. The fish are all buttons. One of my kids helped put them on. I am on there rock climbing, relaxing on the beach (listening to Clay Aiken, according to Beth), and riding in a hot air balloon. The whole time I was working on this piece, Tim McGraw's song, "Live Like You Were Dying" was running through my head. I have no desire to sky dive, but I have hiked in the Rockies, and would love to again.

After visiting the Georgia Aquarium this morning, I have changed my overall journal quilts theme. Now it is water, so this one still fits in the theme.

"... start doing." Great message and good follow through on your vision for the piece. I like the hot pink towel!

This is a very fun and playful piece. I like the sewn on buttons and your colors. The hot pink makes a nice focal point.

This is so cute! I agree about the towel, and I love the smile on little Jules's face!

I'm glad you are not so uptight about your piece that you exclude your kid's choices of buttons. Good for You!

But, wait, where's the bikini?

Jules, it turned out great! It is so much fun too. Bet your kids loved helping out as well.

I like the way you are changing themes in mid-stream! Sounds like something I would do. And you worked it so the first one still fits in!
I like your page too. It is so playful and relaxing. Looks like fun.

That is a lot of fun, and hand applique! That impresses me, that's a lot of work. Love all those cute buttons and that the kids helped you with them.

Your piece is so fresh and whimsical. It would be a great illustration for a children's book, especially since you have a little story you could expand to go with it.
I love that you included your children in the process, making a memory and celebrating creativity. Jen
