Sparkles

As much as I have always wanted to make fun quilts, I have never really done any surface embellishing. Well, I have been having a blast adding beads and sequins to my watercolor heart quilt. My two year old helps pick out the sequins and beads. I am about 3/4 of the way done with it. I have not been working on it much because I am studying for my teacher certification exam. But that is in two weeks, so after that I should have some breathing time again.

So I am curious, what do you all add to quilt surfaces? What are your favorite things? Where do you get them? What are some of your favorite on-line resources?

Very beautiful, both the watercolor effect and the beading. Looks like lots of fun, too!

Looks great. I love that you involve your little one in the process. I have never done any surface embellishment on my quilts. I am getting too many interesting ideas on this blog ring!

The heart is so pretty and your embellishments are perfect for it. I have done a little embroidery, beading and buttons on my journal style quilts. Not as much as I hope to do in the future.

It's lovely, Jules, simply lovely.

To answer your question, I like those iron-on crystals, the really tiny ones are fantastic and they come in a range of colors. You can get them at Michaels or any sewing center that sells a wide variety of threads or beads.

I love this! Awesome!

Always wanted to do a colorwash with the whole flower thing.

Wow! It really does sparkle against the black background!

I'm into beads and crystals right now. I like that if I don't put them onto a quilt I can make them into jewelry and vice versa.

If you want iron-on crystals at a great price I suggest www.cheriscrystals.com. There are also great tips for applying them on the site.
